Based on games like 1080° Snowboarding and SSX; it’s fair to say Tony Slopes doesn’t take itself too seriously. In the Rezzed Zone, I enjoyed a rhythm bullet hell game called HyperCore, but the big highlight had to go to Tony Slopes, a game where you can race downhill on a humpback whale. I could have tried some of the bigger titles, but the prospect of waiting in a long line for a short demo or watching gameplay footage was less appealing considering I was needed back in my own stand.

“As most gamers know, there are plenty of racing and a few skiing games out on the market covering multiple formats, but what if you combine both of these with a wacky twist? Well, take what you are imagining and you’ve probably got a fairly good idea of what the upcoming game, Tony Slopes, is all about.

I got to play this at EGX 2019, and I have to say, first impressions are excellent. What is so unique about this game you may ask? Well, it is the selection of vehicles you can race, covering anything from toilet seats and alligators, to the outrageous humpback whale, which is basically a mobile hazard.

It’s not just the crazy vehicles either, it’s the customisation of your character/racer, where you can equip obscure items such as a plunger, traffic cone or cardboard-box hat to name but a few.

Single player modes allow you to build up skills, which will allow you to unlock new racers and levels, whilst competing in multiplayer races earns cash which you can then spend on cosmetic items for your avatar.

Speaking with the developers, they explained that there will be four types of location, featuring winter, volcanic and jungle environments, with each location having an equal split of the 16 levels/tracks from within the main game, but there will also be the inclusion of mini-games which will be available for selection from the main menu.

The game is still in the early stages of development, and following up on feedback from players, they are looking to introduce stat-based handling for individual vehicles, and a full trick system so you can pull off some epic stunts while flying through the air from the frequent jumps and ramps.

Tony Slopes will first be released on Steam first, which could be followed by a subsequent release for Xbox and PlayStation platforms should they get good feedback from gamers”

AbsoluteXbox  |  "It would make a perfect house party game with a few drinks!"

Tony Slopes takes the award for most bizarre game of the day.  This is a racing game at its core.  But you take control of a man in a bathtub, or a guy in a shopping trolley on skis, or even a bloke riding a blue whale.  It was the latter that drew my attention as we were waking past the booth.  This is a downhill racer on a snowy mountain side, with the ability to create a host of strange and wonderful characters, who’s vehicles range from the weird to the insane.  It’s nice to have games like this from time to time, and while I can’t see myself buying it, I’m fully expecting some fun YouTube videos to come of it.  It would make a perfect house party game with a few drinks"

“Tony Slopes was definitely another game that grabbed my attention. The premise again is rather simple, however, describing it is a bit harder. The best way I could think to put it would Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy, but as a downhill racing simulator where you can pick a whole host of weird and wonderful crafts!”
